COMPETITION AND DEER CLASSIC

February 21nd - 24th, 2013

The Patriot Center
Wausau, Wisconsin
Each year in February, WTA members head to Wausau for four days of fun, education and camaraderie. The competition starts on Thursday with entry registration and setup of the show area.

Babysitting will be available during the banquet

Educational seminars start Thursday afternoon and continue through Sunday afternoon. The seminar schedule is detailed below. Friday night there is an Awards Banquet and Saturday night an informal social for members.

WTA's Competition has six divisions
Junior, Amature, Senior, Open, Masters and Wildlife Artistry.

Four main catagories
Gameheads, Birds, Full-body Animals, and Fish.

Judges
Judges for this event are some of the best known national and international taxidermists. Each participant has an opportunity to sit down one-on-one with the Judge for a critique of the entry. Official rules for the competition, along with schedule of events are published in WTA's newsletter prior to the members preregistration deadline or you can click on the link on the left of this page to view the rules.

 If you are interested in the competition, you can request a copy of the rules which will be mailed to you in the fall newsletter. If you're in the Wausau area on that weekend, stop in and check out WTA's Competition along with the Deer Classic at the Patriot Center.

Seminars
Attending these seminars will help to improve your skill, learn, and meet other taxidermists. Convention fee and WTA membership get you three days of seminars and access to supply area. Call Ron Grams (715)-766-3300 for Seminar Information 

President's Challenge
This years President's Challenge was chosen at the Rendezvous. The 2013 pick is any life size bear.

Avian Challenge
This years Avian Challenge is a Hen Mallard. The picture can be seen in the Insight.

  10AM WTA section opens for preregistered, open and nonresident
  1PM-5PM Supply area opens - Crystal 1
  2PM-4PM Round table-taking care of business should something happen to you
           or any other topics are welcome - Rosewood 2
  6PM Registration closes for mounts NOT preregistered
  7PM WTA Social - Crystal 2
  7PM Registration closed for preregistered mounts
  9PM Competition area set up complete, judging may begin
 

Friday February 22
  6:30AM Judges, board members breakfast meeting - Rosewood 1
  7:30AM Judging resumes
  7:30 Board meeting - Rosewood 1
  8-10AM Seminar-Scott Verhunce bluegill painting with water color pencils
  10AM-12PM Vendor area open - Crystal rooms
  12-1PM Lunch break, vendors pick choice awards
  1-5PM Seminar-Brian Olson, Eric Nokes Hands on whitetail ear butts, eyes
       This is a preregisration seminar open to the first ten people -
       25$ for a change out head, clay, ears, skull plate provided,bring eyes of
       choice , you keep your work for future reference - call Ron Grams (715) 766-3300

  2-7PM Vendor area open
  3-9PM Deer Classic opens - WTA is asking competitors to refrain from going to
          the competition area until 5PM to allow ribbon placement with less
          congestion in this area - your cooperation is imperative - thank you

  9-11AM Kids activity - plaster casting animal tracks - a head count is
